Choose Cherries for Healing & Taste!

By now, if you have been a follower, you have read my reviews on Tart Cherries.  (If not, get caught up here!)  Tart cherries are creating quite a stir in the exercise science and sports nutrition arenas. What I love best is that tart cherries are grown here–in the US with the bulk coming out of Michigan.  Research is out there to support use of tart cherries in:

I’ll be honest you have to hunt in your grocery store to find them, although they are becoming more readily available.  The best place to look–the pie section!  Yes, tart cherries is what your grandma used to make cherry pie.  The best part, tart cherries in the can are unsweetened and packed in water!  If you are lucky you can also find them in the juice section, but look for tart cherry in the ingredient list.

For those of you who love Sonic then perhaps you’ll love this recipe, too!  As a previous lifeguard in the Texas heat I kept myself hydrated and refreshed with the Cherry Limemades from Sonic! My version is a touch healthier (smile).

Tart Cherry Limemade

  • 1/4 cup lime juice (fresh is preferred)
  • 1 cup tart cherry juice or canned tart cherries
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1-2 cups ice
  • 2 Tbsp sugar

Directions:

Blend, serve, and let your body feel the difference!

For those of you who like to mix things up a bit with a late night cocktail consider Tito’s Vodka mixed with Tart Cherry Juice & Lime Seltzer Water—yum!

As you can see I enjoy them canned, dried, freeze-dried, fresh, juiced, and with the limes from my tree!
